Walking through the parks in Anchorage on a still day, when it's cool in the morning, you can see people all around slapping themselves in the face and blurting out "DAMMIT" and "JESUS" and "MOTHERFUCKER" then turning and bobbing and weaving frantically. They're not ill; they just made the mistake of holding still for a few seconds and found them beset by a swarm of half- to three-quarter-inch long blood-sucking hellions. Alaskan mosquitos.
I, myself, barely resisted the urge to swat myself in the face this morning while holding a quarter-pound of husky poop in a bag I hadn't quite closed yet.
Six wolf pups now living at the Alaska Zoo have a lot to learn. Less than 4 weeks old, they jutted their little chins into the sky Wednesday morning, apparently hoping to howl. What came out was just little hoots, zoo director Pat Lampi said.
"They put their chins up," he said. "Their little mouths open and made a little weak 'Oooooh.' "
Full store here .
I haven't been to the zoo here in a while. I guess I'll be going sometime soon.
