Katie LOVES to dress up in costumes. (She got her bachelor's in drama, with a costume design concentration.) I'll happily put on a costume if there's a place to go. For the last several years, though, Halloween hasn't worked out, so we agreed to really do it right this year. She wasn't sure what to do and asked if I had any superhero suggestions. We went through a few and she settled on the Scarlet Witch. I briefly considered trying to do a Vision or Quicksilver costume, but I don't really have the physique to pull that off right now.
There was some trouble with her boots ... we couldn't find red ones so tried spray painting a pair of black vinyls ones she had, and the paint didn't stick very well at all. But when she finished scraping off the big parts, we thought the accents turned out pretty nice. She put on the belt so the boots wouldn't be the only black thing she was wearing. I think her headpiece turned out really nice as well.
I'm sort of a Buck Rogers/Rocketeer guy. I started out going for the Rocketeer then I decided to go even more old school and do Buck Rogers (the real Buck Rogers - don't get me started on Gil Gerard). In the end, due to some constraints and some weather conditions, I ended up somewhere between them. (Several people called me "Rocketeer" and I had to resist the urge to be übernerd and explain that the Rocketeer has a helmet, thank you, and wears a brown jacket, thank you!) I made the jetpack and the gun from some plumbing parts. I'll post some detail shots of those later. You can't really see it in the pictures here, but I put glowsticks inside the jetpack tube where they would glow through the little clear windows.
My boots are East German surplus, and were apparently worn by someone with the skinniest size 10.5 feet EVER. I had to have them stretched four times and they're still really hard to get on. My straps are glowing because I used material with little reflective bits in it, thinking it would look kind of cool in the club (and it did). I didn't think about what would happen with a camera flash.
We went to see a burlesque show put on by some friends and had a tremendous time. Yay Halloween!
I found this on another website, but with no references to its original source.
full head skull mask, green velvet floor-length dress, bare feet, and a bandalero of toast (an entire loaf of white bread) on a string. I went to a friend's work party (she worked at a country radio station) and spoke not a word to anyone, but offered toast to anyone who approached me. Only one person took it. There is a picutre around somewhere, but I'm currently without a scanner.
