I'm not sure where these recordings came from, but over at ickmusic, there are nineteen tracks available for download of a show the Clash played at the US Festival in 1983. I remember both stories in the post over there: that Joe Strummer got in a shouting match with David Lee Roth backstage, and that the Clash refused to go on until festival organizer Steve Wozniak made a large donation to a charity. I did not recall that this was Mick Jones' last performance with the Clash.
I only ever saw the Clash live once, and it was on this tour (supporting "Combat Rock"). It was an amazing show. I've always had mixed feelings about my own hero worship of Joe Strummer, but I'll always be grateful that I got to see the Clash before they broke up and I'll always be doubly glad that I was young and spritely enough to get myself close enough to the stage where I could feel like I was in a room with them, and not at just another concert.
Anyway, here's one of the Clash's most underrated songs, played with appropriate rage:
The Clash performing "London Calling" and "Train in Vain" on Fridays in April of 1980.
And from the same show, "Guns of Brixton" and "Clampdown".
(Also, Team Vox, it would be nice to have the option to just embed a specific URL for YouTube videos instead of searching by tag. These particular videos are only tagged "clash" on their system and don't come up in the Vox search.)
(Also also, I would REALLY like to be able to at least type in links. It's just habitual.)
